ANY LIVERPOOL Mercury (Dolan) members aged between 18-45 who participate in cycling training on a regular basis of three to seven times a week are being invited to get their health stats for free at Liverpool John Moore University.

Third year Sports and Science Excerise student James King (Bsc (Hons) is looking for volunteers to take part in two sets of assessments that will allow participants a free cardiac performance assessment.

However, all those who wish to take part MUST be male cyclists, non-smokers, aged 18-45, who participate in cycling training on a regular basis every a week and have NO major injuries or ANY history of cardiovascular disease.

James said: "The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect intense bouts of cycling exercise have on elevations of cardiac biomarkers located in your blood and whether these elevations cause a decrease in left ventricular function. All testing is carried out by trained personnel in a clean and safe lab environment.

"I am contacting you as I thought that I might be able to recruit some of the male cyclists within the club if they show any interest in the study. For this free cardiac assessment, I require trained male cyclists, non-smokers, aged 18-45, who participate in cycling training on a regular basis of three to seven times a week and have NO major injuries or ANY history of cardiovascular disease.

"From taking part in this study, those that participate will be fed back information on their physical fitness, blood pressure, as well as the performance and function of their left ventricle and heart. Time-trial performance over 40km (25 miles) of cycling and heart rate measurements throughout the exercise will also be fed back to the participant."

If any members of the club show an interest in this cardiac assessment ,then it would be great if they could contact James King at: J.E.King@2007.ljmu.ac.uk

Well done James, great opportunity for certain members of the club. When you speak to them next, ask them if there is any chance of a similar study for 'the over the hill mob' (not that we get over many hills) aka the Umpas
