WHILE it may seem that not much would be happening on the club-scene during the autumn and winter months, nothing could be further from the truth at Liverpool Mercury (Dolan).
The Merc not only has a very active cyclo-cross scene but also a band of mountain bikers. During the frostier days, when it’s impossible to get out on a standard road bike, a few of our riders venture out across the moors on their trusty mountain bikes from near The Punchbowl pub in Sefton Meadows.
Although the route itself is not very taxing, the icy conditions – usually snow – make tiring work of getting around the various canal towpaths and up steep embankments, but it’s great fun as the only thing you usually hit when you fall off is a big pile of fresh snow. Elsewhere, there is a small group that meet up for turbo sessions every Tuesday and Thursday inside the club’s lockup round the back of Litherland Sports Park. If you’re interested in any of these activities during the winter, they make sure to look out for updates on our website at: www.liverpoolmercury.co.uk
